Hi I’m David.

I am a nutritional therapist who provides holistic, personalised solutions to specifically address the root causes of health issues and therefore achieve sustainable and effective outcomes.

I have written several blogs and am currently working on a book entitled “Energy: The Human Body’s Most Valuable Commodity”, which should be completed early next year.

The human body is truly a remarkable achievement of this universe. I adopt the principle that it has perfected itself over many millions of years of evolution and it is fully equipped to achieve optimal health given the correct environmental conditions in which to do so.

My mission is to spread the message to every person on earth that we can live in optimal health. Health is among the most valuable assets we have and I believe it is our birthright.

  • Well as you start to see improvements in your health, I will support you in your communication with your GP, who may then conclude that an amendment to your medication dose is appropriate. I may request that certain blood tests be carried out to clarify your health improvements, and if required, I will formalise this request in a letter addressed directly to your GP.

(Please note that management of your medication is outside of my scope as a nutritional practitioner and is the sole responsibility of your GP.)

  • Nutritional therapists may recommend a variety of tests to assess a person's overall health, nutritional status, and potential imbalances:

    1. Blood Tests

Complete Blood Count (CBC): Measures red and white blood cells, haemoglobin, and platelets, providing information on anaemia, immune health, and possible infections.

Lipid Panel: Checks cholesterol levels (HDL, LDL, triglycerides), giving insight into cardiovascular health.

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Measures liver and kidney function, electrolyte balance, and blood sugar levels.

Blood Glucose and HbA1c: Evaluates blood sugar control over time, essential for assessing risk for diabetes and insulin resistance.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and ESR: Inflammatory markers; high levels can indicate chronic inflammation, which may affect digestion and overall health.

Vitamin and Mineral Panels: Can include Vitamin D, B12, folate, magnesium, iron, zinc, and other micronutrients to assess potential deficiencies or excesses.

Thyroid Panel (TSH, T3, T4, and Thyroid Antibodies): Evaluates thyroid function, important for metabolism and energy levels.

Hormone Panels: Looks at levels of eostrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol to assess hormonal balance, especially in cases of fatigue, weight changes, or mood issues.

    2. Urine Tests

Urinalysis: Basic screening for kidney health, hydration status, and urinary infections.

24-Hour Urine Mineral and Heavy Metal Tests: Evaluates for mineral levels like calcium and magnesium, and heavy metal exposure (e.g., mercury, lead).

Organic Acids Test (OAT): Provides insight into metabolic function, mitochondrial health, neurotransmitter levels, and nutrient deficiencies.

Hormone Metabolites (DUTCH Test): Measures adrenal and sex hormone metabolites, giving a picture of hormone production and detoxification.

    3. Stool Tests

Comprehensive Stool Analysis: Analyzes gut microbiota, digestive markers, inflammation levels, and pathogens (bacteria, yeast, parasites).

Parasitology: Tests for the presence of parasites, which can affect digestion and nutrient absorption.

Gut Microbiome Analysis: Assesses the diversity and balance of gut bacteria, which influence immunity, digestion, and mental health.

    4. Saliva Tests

Cortisol and DHEA (Adrenal Stress Profile): Assesses cortisol patterns throughout the day to evaluate adrenal function, often used to investigate fatigue and stress-related concerns.

Hormone Testing: Measures levels of sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) in saliva, which can give insight into reproductive health and hormonal imbalances.

    5. Functional Tests

Food Sensitivity/Allergy Testing: Identifies potential food intolerances or allergies (IgG, IgA, IgE tests), often used for those with digestive discomfort or inflammatory issues.

Genetic Testing (e.g., MTHFR mutation, nutrigenomics): Assesses genetic variations that may influence nutrient needs and metabolism, providing a personalized nutritional approach.

Antioxidant Capacity Tests (e.g., Glutathione, CoQ10): Evaluates levels of key antioxidants that protect cells from oxidative stress, important for aging and chronic disease prevention.

Oxidative Stress Markers (e.g., 8-OHdG): Measures DNA and cellular damage from oxidative stress, which can reflect diet and lifestyle factors.

Mitochondrial Function Tests: Assesses energy production at the cellular level, relevant for fatigue and metabolic concerns.

Amino Acid Profile: Looks at levels of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins, providing insight into protein digestion and metabolic function.

    6. Breath Tests

Hydrogen/Methane Breath Test (for SIBO): Diagnoses Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), which can cause digestive symptoms like bloating and gas.

Lactose or Fructose Breath Test: Assesses for lactose or fructose intolerance, which may cause digestive symptoms.

    7. Other Diagnostic Imaging/Tools

Body Composition Analysis (DEXA, Bioelectrical Impedance): Measures body fat, lean mass, and bone density, helpful for assessing overall fitness and risk of osteoporosis.

Bone Density Test: Evaluates bone health, often recommended for those with a history of low calcium, vitamin D deficiency, or family history of osteoporosis.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR): Determines the number of calories burned at rest, useful for weight management and metabolic health planning.

    8. Specialty Tests

Hair Mineral Analysis: Measures mineral levels and heavy metal exposure, providing insights into long-term nutrient status.

Fatty Acid Profile: Looks at the balance of omega-3, omega-6, and other fatty acids, which is critical for brain, heart, and inflammatory health.

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) Genotyping: Determines genetic risk for cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's disease, which may impact dietary recommendations.

Homocysteine Levels: High levels can be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and it reflects methylation status which is important for detoxification.

Liver Detoxification Profile: Assesses the body's ability to process and eliminate toxins through liver function testing, which may include Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification capacity.

Autoimmune Markers (e.g., ANA, Rheumatoid Factor): Useful if an autoimmune condition is suspected, as it can help guide dietary and lifestyle recommendations.

    9. Other Blood Biomarkers for In-Depth Analysis

Insulin and C-peptide Levels: To evaluate insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function, helpful in blood sugar and diabetes management.

Ferritin: Measures stored iron levels, which can indicate iron deficiency or overload.

Leptin and Adiponectin Levels: Hormones related to hunger, satiety, and fat metabolism; helpful in weight management and metabolic disorders.

Lipoprotein(a) and Apolipoproteins (e.g., ApoB): Advanced lipid markers that provide a more detailed picture of cardiovascular health risk.

    10. Immune and Inflammatory Marker Tests

Immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM): Help assess immune function and potential immunodeficiencies or chronic infections.

Histamine and Diamine Oxidase (DAO) Levels: Important in evaluating histamine intolerance, which can cause allergic-type symptoms from certain foods.
